Trumpet section

The trumpet section traditionally consists of three trumpets, although you can have as few as two and as many as four in a section. The trumpets are versatile in that they can contribute great metallic power and energy, yet they can also play reflective, elegant passages.

In addition, their sound can be modified greatly by the use of various mutes. Each mute contributes a different effect to the overall sound. Trumpets can also perform a more precise articulation of notes than the other brass instruments. This makes them well suited to playing fast melodic lines if needed.
