Final Thoughts

   The larger any orchestral section is, the more power and individual color it will bring to the orchestral sound as a whole. Having said that, the brass section probably suffers the least from lack of size. While there are normally eleven brass instruments in a traditional orchestral brass section, you can achieve quite a strong brass presence with about half that size, if necessary. This speaks volumes to the power and color of a single brass instrument.  Learning to write effectively for brass instruments can turn an ordinary composition into an exciting piece of music.
