Introduction

The Brass section provides great contrast to the String and Woodwind sections. Like the String section, the Brass section is made up of four smaller sections: the French horn section, the trumpet section, the trombone section and the tuba section.

The Brass section as a whole serves three basic functions. It can perform melodies, provide rich harmonic backgrounds and supply powerful rhythmic accents in any style. From the lowest notes of the tuba to the highest notes of the trumpets, the span of the brass section covers a wide range of musical sound.
