Usage (cont.)Rhythmic SupportAnother supporting role the violins play quite naturally is rhythmic support. They can provide light, bouncy off-beats as accompaniment to other instruments. In this example, the basses play the downbeats and the violins play the offbeats.
A trumpet or woodwind melody would work wonderfully over this music. PizzicatoAs we discussed in our String Section chapter, the strings can perform music in pizzicato fashion. Listen to what the previous violins' part sounds like when played pizzicato.
With this lighter sound as a background, overlaying a melody of woodwinds and xylophone (or glockenspiel) would really tickle our ears.
