Analyzing the Chords and Melody

In this short piece, the right hand plays the melody while the left hand provides the harmony. Let's take a look at the chords formed by the left hand:

If you were to check each chord, you would see that every chord can be found in our chart Chords Built from the A Natural Minor Scale:

Now let's take a look at the melody we've placed over our harmony:

Virtually every melody note in the right hand is found in the accompanying harmony played by the left hand.

To compose a similar piece, you would simply pick notes from the a natural minor scale to create a melody. Then harmonize your melody using chords from our chart Chords Built from the A Natural Minor Scale.
