Analyzing the Chords and MelodyIn this short piece, the right hand plays the melody while the left hand provides the harmony. Let's take a look at the chords formed by the left hand: If you were to check each chord, you would see that every chord can be found in our chart Chords Built from the A Natural Minor Scale: Now let's take a look at the melody we've placed over our harmony: Virtually every melody note in the right hand is found in the accompanying harmony played by the left hand. To compose a similar piece, you would simply pick notes from the a natural minor scale to create a melody. Then harmonize your melody using chords from our chart Chords Built from the A Natural Minor Scale. Or you can start by choosing chords first, and then create a melody based on those harmonies. |
