A Different Approach (continued)

Let's listen to the next four bars:

As you can hear, bars 5 through 8 are virtually a repeat of the first four bars. The 2nd violins now join in on the melody, while the 1st violins play the melody an octave higher than before:

This gives the music a feeling of growth - even though it is literally just repeating itself. The only change appears in bar 8 where we add a short ending.

Other instruments that we have not included in the written score play in the background. The harp, xylophone and additional guitar merely accent various melody notes. But, as you can see, it is the rhythmic percussion and syncopated strings that have really brought the music alive.

We have just created an exciting piece of music by simply playing the notes of one scale - the natural minor scale.
