We start with the strings playing our augmented chords because this provides a silky, seductive bed over which we lay our woodwind and brass effects:

 

The oboe's delicacy blends perfectly with the soft string chords as it introduces our first major 7 note on top of an augmented chord:

In bar 4, the flute replaces the oboe as the instrument that will provide our major 7:

 

Because the flute is playing in a fairly low register, the constant trilling of the notes has a haunting effect that causes a feeling of growing mystery.

When we repeat this effect again in bar 7, we also add an ascending line starting with the bass clarinet and continuing into the clarinet part (doubled by the harp):

In delicate music such as this, a clarinet doubled by a harp provides a mellow yet precise color to a moving line and is very effective playing slow arpeggiated chords. We repeat this effect again in bar 10 beat 4, but this time in a descending line:
