In bars 13 and 14, we find a short transition:

Once again, we base our music on an augmented chord with a major 7th. The low-to-mid range strings and woodwinds use these two bars to spell out the notes of an Ab Augmented chord with a major 7.

A quick glance at just the cellos and violas will confirm that they are indeed simply playing the notes of this chord:

Notice that the first note in this section (G) is the major 7 of that chord.
