Adding the Major 7th (cont.)

In bar 5 beat 3, the strings return to the Eb augmented chord and then move up a minor 3rd to the F# augmented chord:

Once again, the flute plays mysterious trills over those chords:

As before, the flute plays the major 7th note of the augmented chords beneath it:

As you can see, the flute follows the path of the augmented chords played by the violins by always trilling on the major 7 note of the augmented chords below it.

Every time the violins change to a new augmented chord, the flute trills on the major 7 of that chord. In bar 7, when we repeat this pattern again, the celesta and synth bells reinforce this harmony by playing a short, descending arpeggio:

This celesta part starts with the major 7 of the Eb augmented chord (the note D) and arpeggiates down to the Eb and then down one note (a D again) to the major 7 an octave lower.
