Cello Suggested Range
About Our Suggested Ranges
|
UsageAll the orchestral strings are called upon to play melodies. String tones lend themselves beautifully to expressive melodies. Yet the cellos seem to have the greatest diversity of tone colors - shifting from dark and rich to light and sweet. This next example illustrates that point: Motion and EmotionAs we've just heard, cello arpeggios played over a wide range of notes always adds emotion and movement to the music. The octave ending on Middle C contains the cello's sweetest sounding notes. In this range, a simple moving cello line sweetens everything around it. While this example illustrates a Broadway-pop sound, this method of simple cello writing is applicable to all styles. |
