Starting with Melody and HarmonyAs we stated at the very beginning of Composition 101, most music can be broken down into two basic elements: chords and melody. Therefore, to begin composing even the most elaborate of musical compositions, we can simply start with chords and melody. To illustrate this process, let's start with this simple piano piece:
As you can hear, the music has a traditional classical sound. The right hand plays the melody and the left hand supplies the harmony. Let's take a look at that left hand part:
