Using the Lydian Scale

Our first eight bars were all created using the Minor Pentatonic scale. For this next section, we will use the Lydian scale:

These four bars employ the C Lydian scale:

As we've previously learned, the raised 4th note gives the Lydian scale its characteristic sound. In the C Lydian scale, that note is the F#. Notice how often that F# is used in the bass part:

You can also see that the woodwind melody is based on the Lydian scale as well.
