The Lydian Scale

Each Lydian scale (a/k/a Lydian mode) consists of seven different notes that ascend from the root in the following interval sequence: whole step; whole step; whole step; half step; whole step; whole step; half step:

Building a Lydian Scale

To create a Lydian scale, simply take any major scale and raise the 4th note by a half step.

Let's look at our C major scale:

If we raise the 4th note of the scale by one half step, the F becomes an F#.

This new scale is called a C Lydian scale. Any major scale can be converted to a Lydian scale by raising the 4th note by one half step.
