Changing the Patterns and the Harmony (cont.)

We now have a new pattern that we can use for several bars. If you remember, when we established our first pattern in bar 1, we moved up that whole pattern by one scale step to get to bar 2:

For our new pattern this time, let's repeat it, but move it down one scale step. Let's listen to bars 9 and 10:

That's not bad. It does work - but the new G Major chord we presented in bar 10 removed us somewhat from that serious minor feeling we just established with the a minor chord in bar 9. Let's see if we can substitute the G Major chord for another minor chord. If we refer again to our chart Chords built from the C Major scale,

you will notice that the G Major chord is most similar in notes to the e minor chord and the b diminished chord. Since we are looking for another minor chord to follow the a minor chord in bar 9, that leaves us with the e minor chord.

So let's re-do bar 10 to feature the e minor chord instead:
