Melodic Lines

Several interesting lines move over the Major 7th harmonies discussed in Step 3. Starting in bar 20, the violins and violas play an ascending melody line in octaves:

Once again, we use the notes of the Lydian mode to create our melody. Notice the use of the Lydian scale's raised 4th note:

We use the G Lydian scale in bars 20 and 21, and the Ab Lydian scale in bars 22 and 23. These two scales coincide with the harmonies provided by the French Horns:

We repeat this procedure one more time in bars 24 and 25 when we modulate up to the A Lydian scale in conjunction with the A Major 7 chord.
