After a 2 bar opening vamp, the French horns introduce the melody starting in bar 4:

Here, we start to make use of our Lydian scale:

We repeat the theme again in bar 12:

We end the theme in bar 18, where we finally play the C#:

But here the C# also acts as a pivot note to bring us to a new key. In bars 18 and 19, we've modulated to the key of F# major, a major 3rd above our previous key of D major. This major 3rd jump provides some drama to the music. The violins play a sweeping line in this new key.
