Melody

Now that we have established both movement and depth, we can add melody. We already have fast movement, in the upper registers - as played by the harp. We also have virtually no movement in the lowest and highest registers, as played by the basses and violins. Therefore, to add contrast, our melody should move at a moderate pace within the mid register. The cellos are perfect for this assignment:

We've simply built the cello melody from the scale notes of the surrounding harmony. It's also important to point out that the rich, legato feel of the cellos greatly contributes to the overall fluid flow of the music.

Finally, we add one more finishing touch to our sound - the wind chimes:

As you can hear, the wind chimes contribute a final layer of sparkle to our already rich, water music.
