 Usage
Like the oboe,
the clarinet is capable of performing
expressive melodies. A string section
accompaniment is the perfect backdrop for such settings. To listen to

Staccato
The clarinet
can perform much more than legato
melodies. Listen to the clarinet
play in staccato fashion:
While the sound isn't as pointed as the oboe's
staccato, the clarinet's staccato
is still very effective.
Two Clarinets in Harmony
When two clarinets
play together in harmony they produce a very pleasing sound. In this next
example, the two clarinets play
mostly a 3rd apart:
Because the clarinet
is such a rich sounding instrument, two clarinets
in harmony produce a very full sound.
