UsageStaccatoAs you just heard in step 2, the basses easily produce fluid, legato tones. But they can also perform angular staccato rhythms as well:
Because of the sheer size of the bass itself, accented bass notes stand out more than on other stringed instruments. Rhythmic accents and patterns performed by the basses can be made to sound even stronger by adding cellos. In this next example, the basses and cellos play the same pattern one octave apart.
Notice how the basses and cellos blend together to create one thick, homogenous sound.
