While a solo bass has a more fragile tone than a full bass section, it's sound is more intimate. Specific RangesLow to Mid RangeLet's listen to the basses in their low to mid range:
Notice the deep, rich resonance of this range. Mid to Upper RangeNow listen to the same melody as played in its mid to upper range:
While this range also produces a rich tone, it doesn't provide as solid a foundation as the lower range.
