Minor ChordsDespite its name, a minor chord is anything but minor. Its harmony is just as important to the sound of music as the Major chord. Most people think of sad music when they think of minor chords. While they certainly can sound sad, minor chords can also sound pleasant, if not beautiful. What is a Minor Chord?As we discussed in the Major Chord topic, a Major chord consists of the root, 3rd and 5th notes of a Major scale. A minor chord is simply a Major chord with a flatted 3rd:

The reference for a minor chord is either "min." or "m" in lower case letters. So, either "c min." or "cm" denotes a c minor chord.
