The Exotic Diminished Scale

While we often use the Diminished scale to create tension, it is just as often used to lend an exotic touch to the music:

Against the soft background of violins and bell tree, the flute plays a quasi middle eastern melody:

As you can see from the score, the flute merely plays the notes of the C diminished scale. When using this scale, it doesn't take much effort to compose a unique and unusual melody.
