Chord Progression #9

This chord progression is a I-ii-iii-IV progression:

We will reposition the notes of the chords so that they are easier to play on the piano. Lets listen to what this progression sounds like:

This four chord progression has a pleasing sound and can be repeated several times in a row. You might recognize this as the main chord progression in the Beatles song "Here, There and Everywhere."

Let's listen to this progression in a pop setting:

In the following arrangement, we will hear the progression in a serene, classical style. Let's listen to that now:

As you can see in this abbreviated orchestral score, the violins are playing the notes of the chords. The cellos are providing the root note of each chord, and the oboe is playing the melody.

This example is slightly different from our previous ones, regarding our choice of melody notes. Here, we have several main melody notes that are not found in the harmony directly below it. But as you can hear, the sound is still very pleasing because we have made sure that all of our melody notes reside in the same key as the harmony. (In this case, we are in the key of C major). Also, the notes of the melody actually enrich the existing harmony and even modify it.
