Not every chord progression has to start on the I chord. This chord progression is a vi7-II7-V7sus4-I  progression:

As you can see in this abbreviated orchestral score, the strings play the notes of the chords. The bass provides the root note of each chord, and the clarinet and flute share the melody. As in our previous examples, the melody is simply built around the notes of each chord. As a matter of fact, every note in this melody - except one - is derived from the harmony below it.

Although we just heard a somewhat classical example, this chord progression is perfectly designed for pop music. Slowing down the tempo and holding the duration of the chords for twice as long will yield very different results.
