Percussion Layers

Our complete percussion arrangement can be broken down into four basic parts or layers.

Layer 1

The first layer is simply a steady pattern of 16th notes, performed by the shaker. As you will hear, the shaker performs a light rhythmic bed of sound upon which we can build our main rhythmic pattern:

(Note: The symbol instructs the performer to repeat the previous measure.)

Layer 2

Our second percussive layer consists of more shaker sounds combined with scraping sounds:

We've created this sound by scraping the guiro and employing a second, larger shaker. The use of syncopated rhythms and accents really livens up the music.
