Using the Augmented Chord: Example #3

Let's listen to our last musical example:

We hear mystery and movement. We have simply started with a C Augmented chord. The root of that chord is the note C. From that chord, we ascend up the Whole Tone scale, note by note. Each time we ascent to a new note, we build a new Augmented chord rooted on that note:

As you can see from the score, we are simply moving augmented chords up and down the C Whole Tone scale. All these chords have been created from the notes of this one whole tone scale.

Familiarize your ears with the sound of Augmented chords ascending and descending within one Whole Tone scale. This musical device is used very often to create growth and movement while retaining a similar harmonic sound. Whether you ascend and descend rapidly or leisurely, this progression of Augmented chords creates a wonderful and mysterious setting.
