Other Major Chords

We can form two other major chords from our C Major scale: the F Major chord and the G Major chord. They are the four ("IV") chord and the five ("V") chord in the key of C.

The IV chord is simply the Major chord whose root is the fourth note of our original scale. Similarly, the V chord is a Major chord whose root is the fifth note of that same original scale.

In other words, we are in the key of C Major, and we are using the C Major scale. The fourth note of that scale is an F:

Simply build a Major chord starting on that F. As we discussed earlier, a Major chord consists of a Major 3rd plus a minor 3rd. The note found a Major 3rd above the F root is A, and the note a minor third above that A is C:

We do the same thing to build our V chord. The fifth note of our C Major scale is G. Simply build a major chord starting on that G. The note G is your root note. Your third note is a B and your fifth note is a D. These comprise the notes of your G Major chord:
