Composing with the Lydian Scale

In our previous lesson, we discovered that you can create a new minor scale by using the exact same notes as a Major scale. In this lesson, we will create another scale, the Lydian scale, out of that same Major scale. But this time we will have to adjust one note by raising the 4th note of the Major scale 1/2 step:

Let's listen to a C Lydian scale:

As you can hear, the Lydian scale almost sounds like a Major scale. But the raised 4th note gives this scale a slightly different sound. When we use this scale to compose music, our compositions will also be colored with this unique sound.
