 Choosing Another Chord Progression

Our next chord progression is similar to our previous one, in that it consists of four chords that can be repeated over and over again. This progression can be referred to as the I-I7-IV-iv progression.

Let's listen to what that sounds like:

As you can see, in the Key of C, this chord progression consists of the chords C, C7, F and f minor. These chords represent the root chord, the root chord with an added 7th, the IV chord, and the minor iv chord. The root chord with a 7th usually wants to go to the IV chord:

And just like the V chord, the minor four (iv) chord often wants to return to the root (I) chord:

That is why this chord progression works so well as a continuing cycle of chords.
