Establishing the first notes of your melody

So, let's say you've just hummed five notes. You go to the piano and find those notes. Or maybe you were sitting at the piano and your fingers stumbled upon five notes, and these are the notes you chose:

Not a bad beginning. But now what?

Well, let's take a closer look at those notes. Do they have anything in common with each other? Well for one thing, every note except the F can be found in a simple C Major chord:
