Now let's listen to bars 3 and 4:

The harmony of these bars is almost identical harmony to the harmony of our first two bars:

The only difference is in the first half of bar 4. Here we have a Db7 b5 chord:

You will notice that all the notes of this chord are played in the first two beats of bar 4. This harmony adds a stronger sense of mystery to our music.

The harmony serves as the driving force in this composition. We choose melody notes just to bring out that harmony.
