Oboe Suggested Range
About Our Suggested Ranges
|
General InformationThe oboe is the most exotic sounding of all the orchestral instruments. Like the English horn and the bassoon, it is a double reed instrument. While its tone has a somewhat nasal quality, the oboe's delicate charm is quite appealing and can express deep emotion. NotationOboe parts are written in the treble clef at concert pitch. RangeThe oboe has a range of over two-and-a-half octaves. Its lowest note is Bb3 (one whole step below Middle C). However, this note should only be played during loud passages of music, as it is not appropriate for soft moments. The oboe's highest note can safely be determined as F6 (two octaves plus one perfect 4th above Middle C). While it can go a few notes higher than F6, it is not recommended.
