Introduction

"Tempo" refers to the pace or speed of a piece of music. The counting of beats in any piece of music works exactly the same regardless of the music's tempo.

However, the tempo determines the duration of each of those beats. For example, a half note in a piece of music having a slow tempo will be held longer than the duration of a half note in a piece of music having a fast tempo.
