Woodwinds Suggested Ranges
About Our Suggested Ranges |
The Woodwind SectionThe woodwind section adds both contrast and support to the string section. Just like the string section, the woodwind section is comprised of four smaller groups: the flutes, the oboes, the clarinets and the bassoons. The woodwinds as a whole can perform melodies, provide rich harmonic backgrounds and contribute fluid, ornamental lines. From the lowest notes of the contrabassoon to the highest notes of the piccolo, the musical span of the woodwind section is second to none. Woodwind Section MembersIn orchestral scores, the individual staves of the woodwind section are placed in the following order from top to bottom: flutes, oboes, clarinets and bassoons. Although variations do occur, the standard size of each woodwind grouping is three players. |
