Before we explore the many uses of the minor chord, let's review how it is constructed: What is a Minor Chord?As we discussed in the Major chord topic, a Major chord consists of the root, 3rd and 5th notes of a Major scale. A minor chord is simply a Major chord with a flatted 3rd:

The reference for a minor chord is either "min." or "m" in lower case letters. So, either "c min." or "cm" denotes a c minor chord.
