Introduction

The term "Dynamics" simply refers to volume level. Dynamics contribute greatly to music's ability to convey not only great majesty but also delicacy. Throughout a composition, the contrast between dynamic levels contributes immeasurably to the emotional range of the musical score.

Some shifts in Dynamics occur abruptly, adding a delicious element of surprise to the music. Other Dynamic changes take place with more subtlety, gradually swelling in ominous rumbles or diminishing to faltering whimpers. Without shifting dynamics, music would lose a great deal of its ability to convey its broad range of emotions.
